Col. Henry C. Gillespie, a prominent merchant of Knoxville, died in that city on the 5th inst. after a painful and lingering illness.  He was a native of Jefferson county and was in his forty-first year.  Many of the old soldiers of the Army of Tennessee will remember him as the gallant Lieutenant Colonel of the Second regiment of Tennessee cavalry.   Source: Public Ledger, 8 December 1876, digital images, Chronicling America (http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov : accessed 18 November 2018).
